Izena Island

The Izena Island is located north of mainland Okinawa.  It is well-known to be the birthplace of King Sho En, the first king of the second Ryukyu dynasty. It is an island surrounded by beautiful corals and measures approximately 5km in diameter.

Izena island has many cultural assets and ruins as well as precious artifacts such as pottery and pithouses (houses which are dug into the ground) which serve as the reminders of Okinawa's pre-historical Jomon period.

Enjoy a rustic Okinawa here at Izena island which retains its original and natural beauty.
The clear blue seas and white beaches are also highly popular with locals and tourists.  The absence of habu snakes on this island makes it an ideal spot for camping and other outdoor activities.

A triathlon and various other cultural facilities and events are being held each year and there are also various tour programs offering activities on the uninhabited islands of Izena.
